Walk For Life

I am taking a class called "Child, Family and Community" this semester (to maintain my Elementary teaching credentials and also work toward Early Childhood Units). One of the projects of this class is to work with a local agency. I was assign to work with the christian agency Birth Choice of Temecula by my professor.

Today was the awaiting big WALK FOR LIFE fund raising event! Gordon and I both participated. This was a fund raising walk for Birth Choice of Temecula. Birth Choice is a local agency that helps mothers to be and babies until one year old. They provide counseling and medical care for the mothers(usually teenage girls), also food and clothing for the babies up to one year.

When we registered they gave us this T-shirts to wear if we wanted, so we put them on.

Beautiful sunny day for the walk

Here is Gordon walking. When the walk ended, we wished it was longer.

A Sabbath Morning at the Escondido Church and Afternoon at Del-Mar Beach

This Sabbath we went to the Escondido SDA church for Sabbath School and Church service. The sabbath school we went to was very good. It was their last sabbath of a book on the topic of health they have been studying for a few months so they had some doctors as special guess there. At the end of the sabbath school many of them welcomed us personally and invited us to continue to come.
Church was good too. There was great praise music, kids from the San Diego Academy giving their testimonials on their mission trip to Mexico a couple of weeks ago and others reporting in their participation of their 30 Hour Famine they did a month ago. But the best part of the service was the recitation by memory of the whole book of Ephesians by Gayla Powers(one of the member of the Escondido church). That was very impressive! She has a well developed gift of memorisation and she is using it well for the Lord.

After church service Jason and Heidi invited us to go with them to their favorite Mexican restaurant in town. At the restaurant we met more people form the Escondido church that came too. (Sorry, no picture of our lunch goup, I left my camara in the car) The food was good and the company was even better:-)

The day was sunny and warm so after our great long lunch with our new friends we decided to head for the beach. But when we got to Del-Mar the cost was not sunny. It was overcast and cool but it was not windy. Well, that's the cost for you! We found a place to open our chairs and sat there at the beach and read. We had some very relaxing two+ hours there.

The tide was getting high and the ocean water was getting too close to us so we move south to a different area of the beach. Here we were not close to the water and there were trees and wild flowers covering areas of the sand.

Beutiful flowers covering parts of the sand

We found and interesting tree there. Here I am trying to climb it.

It was not hard to climb this three at all. It has a lot of low branches.

Women of Spirit Day at the Campus Hill Church

Women of Spirit Day was celebrated at the Campus Hill Church in Loma Linda this past Sabbath of April 21. They had seminars in the afternoon and other activities that we heard from the people that attended were very good. We did not go to the seminars but did go to the 6:30pm concert. The concert was by 4 different artists. It started with a male quartet followed by "The Three Musketeers", they are three 14 year old boys that play the piano together and they are great. Then came some lifting gospel singing by Adrian Pressley followed by DeAnne Marie Knipschild and the group that came with her that brought us some great praise singing time. We enjoyed the concert, beside the great music we enjoyed seeing some people we know there.

Our Week in Mountain View/San Jose

We had a great week! It was a work week for Gordon. His mission was to update TAgnet servers and set up new ones.
It was such a treat to stay at our friends Van and Aurora's home. We were so glad so see them again! Aurora had some great breakfast and dinners for us and we had a great time visiting and catching up. It felt like we had a feast at every meal:-) Thank you guys!
Staying with them was extra special for us because they live in our old neighborhood. Their place is just three block from our old place in Mountain View. We could not resist and took a quick visit to our street and our place. We have great memories there.

Amor worked at one of the Tagnet San Jose co-location where their servers are during the day. I was his assistant:-) ja,ja,ja! It was cold and very loud there. It sure take a lot of time and patience to work with servers.

we visited Cuesta Park in Mountain View one Evening. We had some good memories here.

We were able to visit friends as well. Glad to see Pastor John and Evangelina at the Fremont church. They were busy doing preparations for their Easter services celebration but took the time to visit with me. It was refreshing to visit Mission Hills School and see the kids again. Mirna prepared a lunch of her delicious Pupusas(typical food from El Salvador). She even made some extra for me to take to Sacramento to my father. She knows how much my father love Pupusas.

Mike and Mirna. The happy couple :-)

Van and Amor had a fun evening playing golf. Here is Gordon warming up as he waits for Van. Sorry no picture with Van. I left with the camera before Van arrived.

Girl's catching up time. I think we were at the restaurant some good four hours. Amelia and Darlene, it was so good to see you both!:-)

We ended our Sunday visiting Richard and Karey. Richard is Gordon's older brother.
We had a great visit with them and their oldest son Greg. We did not get to see Keith, their youngest son since he was not home. Richard and Karey

Here we are with Karey and Greg.

Jamestown

Walking Main Street of Jamestown looking for a place to have dinner. Following are a few pictures that show the architecture style of this street.

We found a sidewalk gold panning station as we walked. There were two boys having fun panning for gold.

This is the front of place we ate. Believe it or not, this is a Mexican restaurant.

Amor made friends with two dogs that were in front of the restaurant. They were playful and friendly.

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park

Sunday, after visiting Maria we went to Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown just a few minutes from Sonora. We have been there before and visiting the museum part of this place but have not done the train ride yet. When we got there the train was leaving so we decided to purchase our tickets for then next train.

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is located in Jamestown, the heart of California's Gold County. It is one of only two preserved steam-era shortline railroad roundhouse complexes in the United States; once there were hundreds of them.

Railtown 1897 is home to the Historic Jamestown shops and Roundhouse-an intact and still-functioning steam locomotive repair and maintenance facility, dating back to 1897.
There they also have many trains that have been use by Hollywood in movies. We saw those last time we were here when we went through the museum part.

Having our root beers while we wait for the train.

Close up of the western theme root beer drink.

Just about to enter the train.

Choosing our seats in the train. Once inside, the roof seem higher than what I thought.

Amor took this picture of us in our seats in the train.

Amor went to the very front of the train and manage to take a shot of the conductors as you see in the picture above. We also went to the very back. It was noisy back there but it was fun to watch the rail way as we travel.
There was also a gentleman playing some live violin music of the 1897 time for us.

Here we are just before we got off the train. It was a fun ride. We were hungry so from here we went to Jamestown Main Street to find a place for dinner.
